Changes at The Foundation

Joanna McHugh • Jun 30, 2022

There have been many changes afoot at The Foundation this month.

This week we say goodbye to Sarah Stewart as she leaves us after nearly 15 years to enjoy a well-earned break. Sarah joined The Foundation in 2007 and has held several roles leading to her becoming Foundation Director in January 2016.

Throughout her tenure with The Foundation Sarah has taken a keen interest in getting to know the many charities that we support and has become invested in the causes that they each dedicate themselves to.

A message from Sarah:

“I have really enjoyed working at The Foundation and working alongside fantastic charities working across the UK and overseas. I have been very privileged to know and work with some wonderful people both here and at the charities we support.

I am proud that despite the 2008 financial crash and the Covid-19 pandemic the Foundation never stopped making grants and supporting charities through these difficult times.

The Foundation has now been in existence for nearly 17 years and in that time we have given away nearly £17 million in approximately 2000 grants supporting a range of small and medium sized charities in their missions to relieve human sickness.

I wish the Foundation, our Trustees and my wonderful colleagues, together with all the charities I have had the great pleasure of working with, all the best for the future.”

Sarah will be missed at the Foundation, but we wish her all the best with whatever the future may bring.

With every ending comes a new beginning and tomorrow the Foundation welcomes Laura Serratrice as the new Chief Executive and we are excited to continue our work under her leadership.

Overlooking the beautiful city from the top of the Bristol Royal Infirmary I spotted the distinctive green and blue of Helimed 65, the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity helicopter as it came in to land above us on the helipad. Fortunately, this was no emergency and there was no patient on board. Pilot Alan Petch along with a specialist paramedic and a critical care doctor brought the helicopter to give us a chance to see inside and hear about the incredible lifesaving missions it embarks on every day.

Hospices up and down the country provide invaluable support to patients and their families when they need them most. At the James Tudor Foundation we support a number of hospices across the South West of England and South Wales to enable them to continue to provide this vital work.
