Richard Esler

Joanna McHugh • Jun 29, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce that Richard Esler passed away peacefully in the early hours of 10th June 2023.

Richard’s association with The Foundation goes back to our inception, having become one of our first trustees while he was still working for Simply Health (previously BCWA). He served as chairman from December 2016 until September 2021 when he stood down due to ill health, but remained a trustee and was greatly respected by his fellow trustees and our staff.

Richard will be sadly missed by us all and by all who knew him.

Overlooking the beautiful city from the top of the Bristol Royal Infirmary I spotted the distinctive green and blue of Helimed 65, the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity helicopter as it came in to land above us on the helipad. Fortunately, this was no emergency and there was no patient on board. Pilot Alan Petch along with a specialist paramedic and a critical care doctor brought the helicopter to give us a chance to see inside and hear about the incredible lifesaving missions it embarks on every day.

Hospices up and down the country provide invaluable support to patients and their families when they need them most. At the James Tudor Foundation we support a number of hospices across the South West of England and South Wales to enable them to continue to provide this vital work.
