APPLICANTS FAQs

If you have a question we haven’t answered on this page, please contact us.

  • Am I eligible to apply?

Please complete our Eligibility Checker to see if you can apply. We also publish list of exclusions on our What we don’t fund page.

  • When can I apply?

Our application deadlines are listed in the When to apply section of each funding programme: Physical Health, Mental Health, Hospice Care. The International programme does not accept applications as all grants are made at the discretion of the Trustees.

If your organisation’s Expression of Interest or Full Application is declined, you will not be eligible to reapply until the equivalent grant round in the following year. For example, if you applied to the June 2025 round and were unsuccessful – at either stage – the earliest you may reapply is the June 2026 round.

If you are unsure when your organisation last applied, please email us or call us on 0117 9596496 – we’ll be happy to advise.

  • Can I apply as a current grant holder?

We do accept applications for continuation funding; however, we do not award concurrent grants. This means that if you currently hold a grant, any new grant awarded would commence only after the conclusion of your existing grant period.

For example, if you were awarded a grant in June 2025, the earliest payment for a new grant would be in June 2026.

To align with this timeline, you must submit your Expression of Interest by the relevant deadline. Grant round schedules can be found on the funding programme page for each programme.

Please also check the answers in the How often can I apply? and When can I apply? sections.

If in doubt about when you are eligible to apply for a new grant, please email us or call us on 0117 9596496 – we’ll be happy to advise.

  • How often can I apply?

    • If your organisation has received a grant from The Foundation for three consecutive years, you will not be eligible for another grant until 12 months after the end of your most recent grant period.

    • If you are unsure when your organisation last applied, please email us or call us on 0117 9596496 – we’ll be happy to advise.

    • If you are currently holding a grant, please check the Can I apply as a current grant holder? section.

Please note that, while we aim to build positive and mutually beneficial relationships with the organisations we support, we cannot guarantee ongoing funding to any applicant.

  • What can I apply for?

You can request a contribution towards the following:

    • An ongoing service
    • A new initiative, service, or product your charity is developing.

When you submit your Expression of Interest, feel free to mention more than one option you'd like us to consider, if that would be helpful to you.

  • What don't you fund?

You can see a general list of funding exclusions here. We also publish more specific information for each funding programme: Physical Health, Mental Health, Hospice Care. The International programme does not accept applications as all grants are made at the discretion of the Trustees.

  • Can I apply for retrospective funding?

We do not fund work meant as a one-off activity and which has already concluded (e.g., a conference that has already taken place, websites that have already been launched, training courses that have already concluded, etc.).

If in doubt, please email us or call us on 0117 9596496 – we’ll be happy to advise.

  • How much can I apply for?

Our grants range from £5,000 to £25,000 per year, but our typical grant is between £10,000 and £15,000 per year.

  • Do you offer multi-year grants?

While we do award some multi-year grants, these currently represent a smaller proportion of our funding to ensure that the majority of our resources remain available each year. You are welcome to apply for multi-year grants if you wish – the Trustees will determine what is feasible within each grant round.

  • What is the application process?

The application process varies for each funding programme. Please refer to the specific guidance for the programme you are interested in: Physical Health, Mental Health, Hospice Care. The International programme does not accept applications as all grants are made at the discretion of the Trustees.

  • What are your Terms and Conditions of funding?

You can find these on the information page of the programme you are interested in.

  • How will I need to report on the grant?

You will need to report to us throughout the life of your grant.

We aim to keep our reporting requirements as light touch as possible, but we do need to receive some information from you so that we can meet our due diligence requirements.

You can read more about our reporting requirements here. If you have any queries, please email us or call us on 0117 9596496 – we’ll be happy to advise.
