ERIC

The Children's Bowel &

Bladder Charity

Since 1991, ERIC The Children’s Bowel & Bladder Charity has stood as the UK’s only charity dedicated to improving the lives of children and teenagers struggling with continence issues - challenges that are all too common yet frequently misunderstood and stigmatised.

The charity delivers a comprehensive range of services, including a confidential, nurse-led helpline that supports families in crisis; a wealth of clinically approved resources covering everything from potty training to managing complex conditions; specialist training for health and education professionals; and an online shop providing essential tools like bedwetting alarms. Crucially, ERIC offers community support and peer connection to reduce isolation, alongside tailored guidance for schools to ensure no child is disadvantaged in their education. The charity also campaigns tirelessly to improve national continence services and drive early intervention.

“Finding ERIC was a turning point for us. Until I spoke to their advisor, I felt completely overwhelmed and judged. They gave me practical strategies that actually worked, but more importantly, they gave me the confidence to advocate for my child.”

“My son was terrified of going to school because of his accidents, and we had nowhere to turn. Then we found the ERIC website and read stories from other families just like ours. Without ERIC, I honestly think we would have continued suffering in silence, feeling entirely alone.”

By prioritising education, breaking down taboos, and championing open conversation, ERIC plays a pivotal role in lifting the shame surrounding bowel and bladder health. The charity is dedicated to ensuring families can access the right support at the right time, striving for a future where every child can live free from the embarrassment and limitations of continence problems.
