About Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC)

GWAAC is a vital lifeline for more than 2.1 million people across Bristol, Bath, and the surrounding regions, bringing hospital-level emergency care directly to those who need it most. Its highly skilled Critical Care Team – comprising specialist doctors and paramedics – delivers advanced medical treatment at accident scenes, providing patients with the best chance of survival and recovery before they reach hospital. On average, they treat six critically ill or injured patients every day.

Why we support Great Western Air Ambulance Charity

The Foundation has supported the charity initially funding specialist training for healthcare professionals and, more recently, enabling community outreach initiatives that teach local people how to use defibrillators and help place these life-saving devices in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the region.

Air ambulances rely entirely on donations to carry out their vital work. Over the first 20 years of our grantmaking, we have contributed to several air ambulance services across the UK. While we would love to support all air ambulances in the country, the most practical and affordable option for us is to limit the focus our grants to those serving the South West England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
