Brainwave is a national charity dedicated to unlocking the potential of children with neurological and physical disabilities.
Brainwave
Unlocking children's potential
An example of a charity providing disease-specific information, support, and education
Since 1982, it has been helping thousands of children achieve greater independence through one-to-one, non-time restricted, specialist, family-centred therapy.
Brainwave works with children facing a wide range of conditions, including cerebral palsy, acquired brain injuries, childhood strokes, autism, Down's syndrome, genetic disorders, and those without a diagnosis at all. Its approach is distinctive: rather than delivering therapy in clinical settings, Brainwave designs bespoke programmes that parents and carers carry out at home or at school.
Each child receives a comprehensive assessment from a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, sensory integration practitioners, and learning specialists, who then create a tailored programme targeting mobility, communication and cognitive development. Based on the principle of neuroplasticity – the brain's remarkable ability to forge new pathways through repetition – these programmes empower families to support their children's progress every single day.
Since its founding, Brainwave has supported more than 13,000 children and their families across the UK, currently supporting more than 410 children a year. Over 90% of families report that Brainwave has made a tangible difference to their child's life. Certificates of Achievement celebrate every milestone, whether a child's first independent steps, their first words or simply sitting unaided for the first time.
"Having Brainwave as part of my daughter's ongoing care means so much. We have a lot of confidence in the physiotherapists, and the programme benefits her tremendously."

We deliver assessments from our Brainwave National Therapy Assessment Centre located in Bridgwater, Somerset, via outreach hubs in the Southeast and Northwest, plus provide national home visits for families whose child is unable to travel. Brainwave continues its mission: giving children the tools to thrive and families the hope they deserve.
