For more than 30 years, Children’s Hospice South West has stood as the region’s only provider of specialist hospice care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions across Devon, North Somerset and Cornwall.

Jessie May brings specialist palliative care, respite, and emotional support into family homes, enabling children to live as fully and comfortably as possible whilst keeping families together in the place their child feels safest.

Jessie May's specialist nurses deliver complex clinical care alongside play, comfort, and emotional support. This hospice-at-home approach provides planned respite visits, emergency support, end-of-life care, and bereavement support, reducing hospital admissions and giving parents precious time back with their child and other family members.

The charity currently supports nearly 200 seriously ill children and their families including bereaved families across the South West, tailoring care around each child's needs and family routines. Families consistently describe Jessie May as a lifeline, highlighting the way nurses become trusted partners in everyday life rather than occasional visitors, bringing both clinical expertise and warmth into the home.

Over recent years, the charity has reported thousands of hours of direct nursing and respite care annually, reflecting consistently high demand for its services and the dedication of its small, highly skilled team.

Jessie May is recognised within the children's palliative care community for its expertise in community-based hospice care and is the only children's hospice in England delivering its entire service in the community. Despite receiving a minority of its income from statutory sources, the charity continues to sustain and grow its service through charitable fundraising and committed local support, ensuring more families can access care at home when they need it most.
