Tŷ Hafan (Welsh for "safe haven") opened its doors on January 25th 1999. Now approaching three decades of providing compassionate, holistic palliative care, the charity supports children with life-shortening conditions and their families in South, West and Mid Wales, offering a lifeline throughout the child's short life, at end of life, through bereavement and beyond.
The charity's multidisciplinary team delivers community and in-hospice services covering physiotherapy, occupational therapy, play and music therapy, complementary therapies, sibling support groups, and bereavement counselling – all provided free of charge. This means families can focus on what matters most: making treasured memories together.
Since opening, Tŷ Hafan has supported over 1,000 families and currently cares for approximately 260 children with life-shortening conditions, whilst providing ongoing bereavement support to hundreds of families each year. The hospice's impact extends beyond clinical care; it offers a source of strength and helps families navigate the fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty that comes with caring for a child whose life will be short.
