Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice

Based by the sea in Sully in the Vale of Glamorgan, Tŷ Hafan provides a comprehensive range of specialist services, including hospice-based residential care, respite care, emergency support, clinical end-of-life care, as well as a range of community services.

Tŷ Hafan (Welsh for "safe haven") opened its doors on January 25th 1999. Now approaching three decades of providing compassionate, holistic palliative care, the charity supports children with life-shortening conditions and their families in South, West and Mid Wales, offering a lifeline throughout the child's short life, at end of life, through bereavement and beyond.

The charity's multidisciplinary team delivers community and in-hospice services covering physiotherapy, occupational therapy, play and music therapy, complementary therapies, sibling support groups, and bereavement counselling – all provided free of charge. This means families can focus on what matters most: making treasured memories together.

Since opening, Tŷ Hafan has supported over 1,000 families and currently cares for approximately 260 children with life-shortening conditions, whilst providing ongoing bereavement support to hundreds of families each year. The hospice's impact extends beyond clinical care; it offers a source of strength and helps families navigate the fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty that comes with caring for a child whose life will be short.

“The presence of Tŷ Hafan has been instrumental in helping maintain family stability — without their guidance and care, we would find it extremely difficult to cope.”

With HRH The Princess of Wales now serving as Patron, the charity continues its vital mission to ensure no family in Wales faces their child's short life alone.
