About The For Baby's Sake Trust

The For Baby’s Sake Trust is a pioneering UK charity dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic abuse and giving babies the best possible start in life. Its core programme, For Baby's Sake, focuses on the crucial first 1001 days of a baby's life – from conception to age two. It delivers trauma-informed, therapeutic support to expectant parents and their babies, helping families to heal from past trauma and build stable, loving homes.

At the heart of the For Baby’s Sake’s programme is its evidence-based, whole-family approach. Parents – whether together or apart – are each assigned their own therapeutic practitioner, who tailors support to their individual needs and circumstances. The programme begins during pregnancy and continues throughout the baby’s early years, addressing not only the immediate impact of domestic abuse but also the long-term effects of adverse childhood experiences. Since launching in 2015, For Baby’s Sake has supported hundreds of families across London, Hertfordshire, Blackpool, the South East, the North East, with plans to expand further across the UK.

The charity stands out for its commitment to innovation and partnership. It collaborates closely with local authorities, health services, and social care providers, embedding its model within existing support systems to reach the most vulnerable families.

Independent research, including a major evaluation led by King’s College London, has highlighted the For Baby's Sake programme’s effectiveness in reducing domestic abuse and improving outcomes for babies and their parents.

Beyond providing direct support, the charity drives wider change by sharing learning, influencing policy, and providing resources and training for professionals. It is committed to reaching families facing complex challenges, empowering parents to make lasting changes for themselves and their children. By focusing on the baby as the catalyst for positive change, For Baby’s Sake helps families break cycles of harm and build brighter, more hopeful futures together.

"It feels like I can live a normal life now, that I can be a father and a partner, and I'm not doomed to wreck everything that's good in my life.”

- Parent supported by the programme

“I remember sitting down with my dad, having a conversation about the difficult start he had in life, and the difficult start I had in life, and comparatively what a nice entry into the world my baby has had.”

- Parent supported by the programme

“For Baby’s Sake is transformational for families who commit to the programme. The intensity of the intervention supports change for both parents and, importantly, the child’s experience in their early years is optimised.”

Why we support The For Baby's Sake Trust

The charity has pioneered a truly innovative approach to safeguarding families from the cycle of trauma and abuse that can span generations. Its evidence-based approach is shaped by ongoing monitoring and evaluation with a strong commitment to measuring outcomes and accountability.

At the heart of its work is the support offered to parents who have themselves lived through childhood abuse and neglect, empowering them to heal from years of trauma and equipping them with the tools to break these harmful patterns as they raise their own children. By nurturing self-awareness and providing robust support for parents, the charity helps to create environments where children can flourish. As a result, these children enjoy significantly better prospects – not only in terms of physical and mental health, but also in educational achievement and future employment opportunities.

The outcomes achieved by the charity span far beyond the individual lives it touches, positively impacting society as a whole.
